# JIRA

Connect your Jira Cloud site to Teleskope to catalog, classify, and remediate sensitive data in issues, comments, and attachments.

## Prerequisites

* A Jira Cloud site. Jira Server and Data Center are not supported.
* An Atlassian account that can browse the projects you want scanned. Teleskope scans only the projects and issues this account can see.
* For remediation actions, the same account needs permission to edit issues and comments, delete attachments, and delete issues in those projects.

## Create an Atlassian API token

Teleskope connects to Jira with the account's email address and an Atlassian API token.

1. Sign in to Atlassian as the account Teleskope will use, then open [API tokens](https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens).
2. Click **Create API token**. Do not choose **Create API token with scopes**. Scoped tokens only work through a different API address, which the connector does not use.
3. Enter a name, such as **Teleskope**, and set an expiration date. Atlassian allows at most 365 days.
4. Click **Create**, then copy the token.

{% hint style="info" %}
Atlassian shows the token only once. Save it securely before closing the dialog. When the token expires, scanning stops until you update the credentials in Teleskope. See Atlassian's [API token documentation](https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-account/docs/manage-api-tokens-for-your-atlassian-account/) for details.
{% endhint %}

To replace an expired or rotated token, open **Settings → Connectors → Jira**, select the instance, choose **Edit**, and enter the email and new API token.

## Remediation

Policy Maker actions for Jira can:

* Redact classified text in an issue's summary, description, and comments. Teleskope appends "Posted automatically by Teleskope" to each comment it edits.
* Optionally, as part of a redaction, delete attachments that contain classified data.
* Delete an issue.
* Create a Jira ticket or comment on the flagged issue as an alert.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Jira keeps earlier values of an issue's summary and description in the issue's **History**. Redaction replaces the current text but does not remove those earlier values.
{% endhint %}
