OpenAI

Connect your OpenAI workspace to Teleskope to catalog and classify conversations, messages, and files for data security and data loss prevention.

Prerequisites

  • A ChatGPT Enterprise or ChatGPT Edu workspace

  • Workspace Owner or Admin access to the ChatGPT Admin Console and Admin keys

Where to find your OpenAI credentials

Before enrolling in Teleskope, gather the Workspace ID, Organization ID, Workspace Name (optional display label), and a workspace-scoped Admin key. Use the steps below to find or create each one.

Get Workspace ID and Organization ID (ChatGPT for Enterprise)

  1. Open your ChatGPT for Enterprise account and go to Settings & permissions: https://chatgpt.com/admin/settings.

  2. In Workspace details, note the Organization ID and Workspace ID. You will enter these in Teleskope during enrollment.

  3. The workspace name you see there can be used as Workspace Name in Teleskope (a display label for the data catalog).

Create a workspace-scoped Admin key

  1. Sign in to the ChatGPT Admin Console: https://admin.openai.com/.

  2. Select your tenant if needed, then select the ChatGPT workspace where you have the Owner or Admin role.

  3. Open Credentials and select Admin keys.

  4. Select Create new admin key, enter a descriptive name, and choose the workspace it should access.

  5. For scanning and cataloging only, select the Read only preset, or under Custom set broad compliance permissions and Conversation messages to Read. For redaction enabled, under Custom set broad compliance permissions and Conversation messages to Write (Read is included), because Teleskope deletes conversations and user-uploaded files that violate policy. Both cases require a workspace Owner to create the key because Conversation messages access is owner-only; a workspace Admin cannot create a key that works for this connector.

  6. Select Submit, then copy and securely store the secret. You cannot view it again. See OpenAI's Admin key instructions for current details.

Fallback: request Compliance API access from OpenAI Support

If workspace-scoped Admin keys are unavailable, create an API Platform secret key and email support@openai.com with its name, creator, last four characters, and requested access: Read for scanning and cataloging only, or Read & Delete for redaction/deletion. OpenAI Support will confirm when the Compliance API scopes are enabled. Never share the secret itself.

Existing authorized keys keep working and do not need replacing just because self-service Admin keys are available.

Enroll the OpenAI Connector

1

Open OpenAI settings

  1. In Teleskope, go to Settings → Connectors.

  2. Select OpenAI from the connectors list.

  3. Click Enroll.

2

Enter workspace credentials

On the enrollment page, fill in:

  1. Workspace ID — The OpenAI workspace ID.

  2. Workspace Name — A display name for the workspace (e.g., for use in the data catalog).

  3. Organization ID — Your OpenAI organization ID.

  4. API Key — Your OpenAI workspace Admin key. This is stored securely and used to access workspace data.

Click Enroll to complete enrollment. On success, you are returned to the OpenAI connector page and the workspace appears in the enrolled list.

What Teleskope discovers

Teleskope looks back through recent compliance logs. By default this starts from the last 7 days of activity. Conversations outside of the initial lookback window are not discovered. Teleskope continuously ingests new conversation activity and keeps your catalog up to date.

Keep your Admin key secure. Do not share it or commit it to version control. You can create and manage Admin keys in the ChatGPT Admin Console under Credentials → Admin keys.
